DID you know...?
When Cassius Clay became Muhammed Ali and refused to comply with the US Draft, his case was presented to the Supreme Court by the famous alcoholic Hayden Covington, who established the rights of JW book-sellers to be considered "ministers."
I personally benefitted from Covington's work (indirectly), yet I would rather he (and I) had never been born.

JW Video Armageddon to occur before 2040
by Listener insorry i thought it was a new morning worship video but it is 6 months old and has already been discussed on here.. it is presented by gb helper k flodin and about this generation.
the delusion and hypocrisy runs deep.. he reminds the cult members not to speculate because they aren't supposed to know the day or the hour.
then he proceeds to speculate that armageddon will occur before 2040.. https://tv.jw.org/#en/video/vodprogramsevents/pub-jwbmw_201511_3_video.

2040, eh?
Is this a "clever" way of obfuscating 2034, the "bible-based" date arrived at by adding the 120 years of Noah's "ministry" to the date 1914, the year when suddenly, nothing happened?
Apologies to Blondie, I replied before I read her comment.

Feeling Sad After Uncovering TTATT
by pale.emperor inmy initial pangs of unease and doubt led me to research some things.
well, a lot of things really.
i've never felt comfortable using the bible to try to calculate dates (1914).

It is fitting that this has been compared to experiencing the death of a friend.
Familiarize yourself with the stages of grief; you should give yourself permission to spend some time with each stage. Your anger may be great; direct it in an appropriate way.

Hi, I'm an atheist.
I'd like to suggest you visit one of our churches sometime.
To keep a low profile, we call it "the Zoo."
There is probably one near you.
Drop in, visit for a while, and let us know what you think of the sermon-of-the-day. K?

Try Being Kind...It Actually Feels Good!
by EyesOpenHeartBroken inlet me start by saying that this forum has been helpful to me in many ways.
i haven't gotten involved in much commenting and i am not very assertive by nature so i've steered away from participating in debates.
but i have read threads often and had a sense of community.

EyesOpenHeartBroken, you're a chick, right?
Or are you living in some kind of neo-hippie "piece & luv" fantasy land?
Hope I didn't add too much to your broken hearts club band.

Prince: Judge Demands DNA Tests As 700 people Lay Claim To His $300 Million
please see: http://hollywoodlife.com/2016/05/07/prince-dna-tests-estate-fortune-siblings/
I think some JWs take the terms "brother" and "sister" a bit too literally when the whiff of cash is in the air.

What should I visit while in New York
by wannaexit ini am planning a trip to new york and trying to develop an itinerary.
t will be my first time.
what do you suggest i see?
-
Nathan Natas
How long will you be in town?
Eight weeks?
Twelve weeks?
EXCELLENT!
See everything suggested above, (Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The American Museum of Natural History, the Guggenheim Museum, a Broadway show, Central Park, Empire State Building, New Freedom Tower, Yankee Stadium, the NY Public Library on 5th ave, the Plaza Hotel, stroll down FIFTH ave and marvel, the statue of liberty)
add the Hayden Planetarium and the United Nations Building. Then head to the northern tip of Manhattan and explore The Cloisters Museum. Head over to Staten Island and investigate the long-gone site of the first Bethel Farm/Bordello, then find the Church upon whose grounds is a vast EMPTY space where old-time Dubs like W.E.vanAmburg are buried, all sans-headstones. I can supply directions if you wish.
See the magnificent Verrazano–Narrows Bridge, see Coney Island. If time permits, drive all the way out to Montauk Point (116 miles):
You will see "the island" magically transform from a busy metropolis to something more like cape cod; that eastern tip is warmed by the gulf stream and you will find remarkable life in the tide pools out there.
You can find the site of Tesla's energy transmission experiments at Wardenclyffe Tower (1901–1917), also known as the Tesla Tower, an early wireless transmission station designed and built by Nikola Tesla in Shoreham, New York in 1901- 1902.
It is on the North Shore of Long Island:

I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

Don't mean a damn thing.

Were you beaten as a child?
by purrpurr ini've been confronting my mother with her dubious parenting skills (abuse) of me as a child.
particularly the beatings i would get with the wooden spoon.
not a light smack but hitting me as hard as she could for as long as she could.

Get her one of these wall decorations:
but don;t smack her with it.
